Our Successes

Since 2009, SchoolSeed Foundation has stood as a pillar of educational advancement in Memphis, Tennessee, fostering remarkable achievements and

innovations in local education systems. Initially operating under the Memphis City Schools Foundation banner, SchoolSeed rebranded in 2012 to broaden its mission and impact following the merger and de-merger of Memphis City Schools with Shelby County Schools.

Under the stable and visionary leadership of its founding CEO, Vincent J. McCaskill, SchoolSeed has thrived as a catalyst for educational transformation. The foundation has successfully raised and managed substantial funds, highlighted by a historic $21.4 million fundraising effort for the local public school system that stands as a record in local public education philanthropy. Additionally, SchoolSeed has been trusted to manage over $90 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, underscoring its capacity and trustworthiness in handling significant philanthropic investments.

SchoolSeed's programs are diverse and impactful. Notable initiatives include the establishment of the White Station Courtyard Project, the Jim Herbert STEM Center at Whitehaven High School, teacher grants, and comprehensive fundraising support for the athletic and academic programs across various schools,

A significant recent achievement is the acquisition and revitalization of Kindred Place. This 27,000-square-foot facility now extends SchoolSeed's outreach to include therapeutic family services, parent training, and life skills programing effectively utilizing a strategic partnership to resume valuable community services, a testament to the trust and confidence the community places in SchoolSeed's leadership.

Securing and managing private resources to supplement the priorities and programs of public education is the core of our approach, and we have evolved to support efforts in the community that support families. Strengthening families, strengthen communities which strengthen schools. Collaboration with the local education agency and its leadership is the bedrock of our methodology. We promote efforts that result in high achievement for students and schools. This is because we value the importance of pre-collegiate and higher education to the lives of individuals, the vitality and coherence of community, and breaking the cycle of generational poverty. We are devoted to equity and access for poor children and believe public education is the linchpin to social mobility. Historically, our approach and values have aligned with public schools.

SchoolSeed has worked closely with every local philanthropy in Memphis to support schools and systemwide initiatives, reflecting its deep integration into the community's philanthropic fabric. The foundation has also partnered with dozens of businesses to support students and teachers, further showcasing its ability to mobilize and leverage community resources for educational advancement.

The foundation's ability to adapt and respond to community needs while maintaining robust partnerships with government entities, educational institutions, and private donors underscores its role as a trusted and tested community leader. SchoolSeed's journey since 2009 vividly illustrates its commitment to fostering an environment where education thrives and community needs are met with innovative and sustainable solutions.
