Memphis Shelby County Schools Board Approves Resolution Reaffirming Commitment to Partnership with SchoolSeed Foundation
Memphis, TN – (October 22, 2024) The Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) Governing Board has unanimously approved a resolution reaffirming their commitment to a long-term partnership with the SchoolSeed Foundation. This endorsement marks a significant continuation of an ongoing 15-year collaboration aimed at enhancing educational outcomes and teacher support throughout the district.
The resolution, sponsored by Board Commissioner Stephanie Love, underscores SchoolSeed’s pivotal role in facilitating private investments into public education, managing substantial grants, and directly contributing to improvements in STEM education, teacher appreciation, and crisis response initiatives.
Vincent J. McCaskill, President and CEO of SchoolSeed Foundation, expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm about the renewed commitment: "This resolution is a testament to the strength of our partnership with Memphis Shelby County Schools and our shared vision for the future. Together, we have made substantial strides in supporting our teachers and empowering our students. With this reaffirmation, we look forward to continuing our vital work, ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly complex world."
SchoolSeed Foundation, recognized for its robust management of the $90 million Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant for Teacher Effectiveness, has been a cornerstone in the community since its establishment in February 2009. The foundation’s initiatives have included the creation of Shelby County Schools' first free supply store for teachers and substantial contributions to the East T-STEM Aviation Program.
The MSCS Board's resolution reinforces their support for SchoolSeed's ongoing projects with schools, central office staff and its indispensable role in the community, particularly in urgent times such as during the pandemic when the foundation raised over $60,000 to assist local families in support of the SCS Board Cares Initiative.
